EDRE-535 Teaching Phonics and Language Structure

Participants will integrate foundational principles of structured literacy instruction into their teaching practices. Through practical exploration, the course delves into considerations for phonological and phonemic awareness, providing educators with hands-on strategies. Participants will implement effective approaches for teaching phonics and word recognition, fostering automatic and fluent reading of text. The course extends its focus to vocabulary development, guiding educators in practical applications to enhance students' lexical proficiency. Additionally, participants will explore considerations for written expression, applying strategies to promote effective communication. By the course's conclusion, educators will possess a comprehensive toolkit to elevate their phonics instruction and language structure pedagogy. Course outcomes align with the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) standards. This course requires field experiences. Prerequisite: EDRE-525
