NRE-513 Professional Development of the Nurse Educator Education

This course establishes the processes of inquiry, evidence-based practice, research, guidelines, and application of the components which students will plan to fulfill in the graduate nurse educator program and the requirements therein. Students are introduced to the professional competencies and expectations of nurse educators in various settings and will begin planning their capstone project. Prerequisite: GNUR-501

NRE-600 Nurse Educator Role Development

Students will learn about the history of the nurse as an educator, highlighting feedback loops between theory, research, practice, policy, education, and healthcare as foundational for the growth of the profession. Continual improvement in the quality of the educator, curriculum, instruction, and learning modalities to meet societal healthcare needs is discussed. Sixty-five precepted hours focus on forming one's role identity as a developing educator with content expertise, forming the learning relationship, assessing readiness to learn, scaffolding and preparing content, and exploring teaching-learning practices from the learner perspective. The principle and discipline of overlearning are emphasized.

NRE-610 The Academic Nurse Educator

This course addresses the myriad of components encountered by the student entering a nursing program and the role of the educator in addressing each need. Included are precepted hours focused on equipping the educator to guide the learner to successfully reach the target taxonomy level planned for each class session. Becoming adept with implementing active learning and competency evaluation strategies for ensuring NCLEX success is the priority. Prerequisite: NRE-600

NRE-620 Clinical Staff and Student Educator

This course addresses the complexity of learning in the often chaotic clinical environment and the safety and needs of the patient that must be the priority for the clinical educator and learner. Strategies for developing clinical reasoning and judgment, safety, accuracy, confidence, resilience, and ethics of care are applied in the care of complex patients through each of the nursing process steps. Establishing competency through simulation is included in the precepted practicum hours. Prerequisite: NRE-610

NRE-630 Community and Patient Educator

This course builds on the findings of a community assessment to address the social determinants of health and the learning needs of community populations. Subsequent long-term curriculum planning and public messaging is the focus of this course. The practicum hours will afford professional and lay relationship and partnership development, CE planning for various lay and professional learners, and system evaluation. Prerequisite: NRE-620

NRE-640 Capstone Development of Nurse Educator Expertise

The practicum experience will allow the learner to demonstrate mastery of the AACN Essentials and NLN Nurse Educator competencies and fulfillment of the program outcomes through precepted activities and fulfillment of a collaborative project in a self-selected setting aligned with their preferred educator role and clinical expertise. The EBP findings are disseminated and one's philosophy and Knowledge, biblical Attitudes, Skills, and Habits (KASH) as a novice nurse educator are evaluated. An ability to manage the system environment for its impact on the teacher and learner is validated. Certification exam preparation is planned and implemented. Prerequisite: Successful completion of all previous major courses.

NRE-660 Health Assessment for the Nurse Educator

Designed to provide the nurse educator with the knowledge and skills to teach and evaluate health assessment skills of the undergraduate nursing student.

NRE-661 Leadership in Nursing Education

Presents leadership and management concepts essential for nurse educators across a variety of settings. The course emphasizes ethical decision-making in the stewardship of resources and the process of implementing change through an understanding of economics, organizational behavior, and healthcare policy. The professional role of the nurse educator is addressed, including the ability to collaborate effectively as a change agent.

NRE-662 Advanced Health and Physical Assessment

This course is designed to provide the graduate level nurse with the advanced knowledge and skills to evaluate the health of a client and to demonstrate the necessary skills to complete the health and physical assessment.Prerequisite: PYC-612 and PYC-614

NRE-663 Course Design and Development

Prepares the nurse educator to develop and revise courses within the context of a curriculum to facilitate student learning and enhance program effectiveness. Emphasizes the roles of internal and external stakeholders in the process.

NRE-664 Concepts of Leadership for Nurse Educators

This course emphasizes leadership and management concepts essential for nurse educators across a variety of settings. The student will explore resources and organizational behaviors important to becoming a change agent. Students will identify an area of clinical nursing practice in which they will work with a Master's prepared preceptor to demonstrate in-depth knowledge and expertise as a leader in clinical nursing practice. (35 practicum hours required)

NRE-665 Innovative Teaching Strategies

Assists the graduate nurse educator to design appropriate teaching techniques for diverse learners and learning settings. Incorporates the use of cutting edge technology and social media to augment student learning.

NRE-667 Program Evaluation and Assessment

Emphasizes the process of analysis and modification of educational programs to promote compliance with relevant standards, criteria for evaluation, and accountability.

NRE-669 The Art of Teaching

Provides the opportunity to apply acquired knowledge and skills in supervised diverse educational settings. Includes 140 practica hours.

NRE-693 Integration of Theory Into Nursing Education Practice

In this course, students demonstrate achievement of program and education track outcomes as a novice educator. Students synthesize and evaluate evidence of having acquired the knowledge, dispositions, and skills to be effective "Agents of Change."

NRE-695 Nursing Education Capstone

This course provides the opportunity to apply acquired knowledge and skills in supervised diverse educational settings. Students will assemble evidence to demonstrate knowledge, dispositions, and skills to become change agents in advanced nursing practice. Includes 140 practicum hours.
