BIB - Bible

BIB-103 Vocational Formation

An analysis of the history and theology of vocation in the Christian tradition and its application in students' lives. This includes reflection on one's understanding of vocation and its implications on their faith, work, homelife, communities, and workplaces. Students will identify and develop spiritual practices that attend to their vocational identity.

BIB-120 The Bible As Literature

This course will provide practical insight rooted in the "grand drama" of the biblical story, including key persons, events, and genres. The content will present ways in which a Christ follower finds their identity and purpose as they engage with the stories, letters, poems, prophecies, histories, etc., contained within the Bible's bigger story. Students will explore the various categories of literature within the Bible, such as Law, History, Poetry & Wisdom, Prophecy, Gospels, and Letters, while learning how to approach the Scriptures with insight and wisdom.

BIB-121 Bible Journeys

This course introduces four overarching themes in the Bible: Creation, the Fall, Redemption, and Restoration. Throughout the journey, students will explore how the Bible describes humanity's cycle of self-destruction and the Messiah who will restore the covenant partners between God and humans. Students will study the origins, content, and purpose of the Bible and learn how to approach the Scriptures with insight and wisdom.

BIB-501 Introduction to the Old Testament

This course is designed to provide learners a foundation in the scripture of the Old Testament and introduces the history, literature, and thought of the Old Testament as reflected in its major divisions and individual books. It is designed and recommended for those who have not had a systematic survey of the Old Testament. The activities are designed to provide a more practical experience for learners to apply the scripture to current life situations.

BIB-502 Introduction to the New Testament

A foundational course to provide a broad survey of the New Testament with an emphasis on the biblical theological themes and literary genre of each book. Overall themes, divisions, and spiritual lessons will be examined in relation to their historical and/or social context of each major section of the New Testament. Students will explore practical venues for engaging the New Testament with contemporary global concerns, ethical frameworks, vocation, and personal spirituality.
