HCIN-500 Foundations of Healthcare Informatics

Students in this course develop a fundamental understanding of the principles of data science and predictive analytics within the healthcare sector. Students will explore the role of informatics in healthcare delivery, incorporating concrete examples of operational systems used to improve health outcomes. Practical application and evaluation of case studies will enable students to apply these techniques to real-world healthcare data within the Virtuous Business Model framework.

HCIN-505 Ethics, Policy, and Compliance in an AI-enabled Healthcare System

Students in this course will explore the expanding use of artificial intelligence in the healthcare system, modes of healthcare delivery, and the ways healthcare is organized, financed, and delivered. They will learn to apply a framework for responsible implementation of artificial intelligence, navigating issues of ethics, privacy, equity, and efficacy. Students will critically analyze current AI innovations and identify new ways to use such tools to enhance health outcomes. Topics also include oversight, data privacy, algorithmic bias, the regulatory environment, and roles of government and big tech. The Virtuous Business Model will be applied to the evaluation of ethical outcomes.

HCIN-515 The Digital Health Ecosystem and Data Standardization

Students in this course will explore the context and ecosystem of digital health data including the integration of AI with telehealth, mobile health applications, and wearable devices, emphasizing the creation of personalized and precision health solutions. Students also evaluate the use of foundational aspects of healthcare data standardization, data architecture, electronic health records (EHR), security, and common clinical vocabularies. The Virtuous Business Model will be applied to the evaluation of digital health ecosystems and data standardization.

HCIN-520 Data Science and Business Analysis in Healthcare

Students in this course will demonstrate data management and analytic skills to support healthcare organizations in improving patient experience, safety, quality, population health, business operations, and marketing strategies. Topics include project management, data management principles, analytics, electronic clinical quality measures, performance incentives, process control, and fundamentals of quality improvement science. Apply the Virtuous Business Model framework to guide decision-making and business analysis.

HCIN-525 Emerging Technologies and Trends in Healthcare

In this course students will evaluate emerging healthcare topics which include Industry 4.0/5.0, healthcare supply chain resilience, market structure, digital innovations, considering strategies to lead in the dynamic healthcare environment. Students will explore future challenges within healthcare and evaluate how emerging technology and data driven support systems provide guidance to improve health outcomes. The examination of how a biblical and ethical framework may be applied to emerging technologies and trends in healthcare will be addressed.
