FINA-179 Appreciating Ancient and Early Western Art

This course is an integrated study of the history and appreciation of ancient Mediterranean basin and Judeo-Christian art. In addition, the early western visual art through the Medieval era will be studied. Students will learn to compare and contrast the aesthetic, historical, and elemental properties from these historic periods. In addition, they will explore lifelong arts enjoyment, skills in critical interpretation, becoming an informed consumer, and aesthetically appreciating the many genres of ancient visual art, including early Christian art. Previous experience with art appreciation is not required. The course features a highly interactive adaptive learning platform with regular instructor support.

FINA-180 Humanities Fine Arts

This course is an integrated study of the history and appreciation of art and music in Western culture from the Middle Ages to the present era. Students will learn to discuss the aesthetic, historical, and elemental similarities of both disciplines. Students will explore lifelong arts enjoyment, skills in critical interpretation, becoming an informed consumer, and aesthetically appreciating the many genres of musical and visual art, including traditional and popular styles. Previous experience in music and art appreciation is not required.

FINA-185 Contemporary Art and Culture

This course offers an understanding of the importance and impact of the arts and the outstanding artists of the modern era from the Christian point of view, teaching students to discern the message behind the forms. It also shows the relationship between the general spirit of culture and artistic expression. Not open to students with credit in FINA-180.
