HCAD - Health Care Administration

HCAD-510 Healthcare Administration Issues

Students in this course will assess the impact of healthcare trends and issues on the organization's people, performance and policies, evaluate programs for strategic alignment with current trends and issues, and distinguish the various types of healthcare systems. Students will evaluate the various organizations that provide professional development, peer support, and continuing education, and determine present healthcare issues through research using scholarly sources. A Christian worldview of the ethical obligations of healthcare providers and institutions will be integrated and communicated throughout the course.

HCAD-511 Healthcare Governance and Organizational Structure

Students in this course will analyze governance structures and performance outcomes for alignment with mission, vision, values, and goals and select the appropriate legal structure for specific healthcare organizations. Students will analyze the policies, marketplace dynamics, and standards of the healthcare industry on organizational governance and structures, assess the influence of governance systems on human resource policies, and design personnel structures in relationship to the governing body and facility operations. The roles, responsibilities, and relationships among executive management and the governing body will be evaluated from a biblical worldview.

HCAD-512 Healthcare Finance

Students in this course will apply the mechanics of healthcare financing in the post-Affordable Care Act era, assess the financial health of healthcare organizations, and incorporate revenue cycle processes to support organizational success. Students will determine appropriate financing based on cost effectiveness and cost utility, assess third party payer systems and reimbursement methods, evaluate business opportunities using various measures of financial risk and rates of return, and analyze cost measurement and allocation processes for acquiring and financing assets. Finally, students will integrate the Virtuous Business Model into healthcare financial decisionmaking.

HCAD-513 Healthcare Principles and Policies

Students in this course will evaluate the political and legal process through which public health problems are addressed, assess the role of culture and patient choice in the creation of health policies, and analyze the financing and policies of long-term care for the aged and disabled. Students will design policies based upon scholarly research methods that address community and national health needs in the context of economic health and stewardship. A biblical worldview will be integrated into ethical and professional principles throughout the course.

HCAD-514 Healthcare Technology and Information Management

Students in this course will assess the technology security systems of healthcare organizations, evaluate business and clinical technology trends in healthcare, and prioritize information systems opportunities for meeting organization strategic goals. Students will develop disaster recovery plans and formulate a plan to guide the implementation of new technology in healthcare organizations. Students will apply concepts of the Virtuous Business Model to the management of technology and information systems.

HCAD-515 Healthcare Strategic Development

Students in this course will evaluate the factors in the healthcare environment that impact strategy and integrate those into the healthcare organizational strategic planning process. Students will synthesize ethical standards in strategic decision-making, illustrate and outline the development of the strategic planning process, integrate organization mission, vision, objectives, and priorities into the planning process, plan strategies to address identified problems/opportunities, utilize critical analysis in strategic plan development, and support a commitment to Christ-like character. The course will prepare students to utilize the case study methodology needed for HCAD-590.

HCAD-590 Healthcare Administration Capstone

This course presents opportunities for students to demonstrate an integrated understanding of best practices in healthcare administration policies, principles, and biblical and ethical standards. Using the case study method, students will design strategies that address complex organizational issues within the healthcare industry, evaluate healthcare personnel management, integrate critical analysis, synthesize ethical standards in strategic decision-making, create communication strategies to achieve organizational goals, and support a commitment to Christ-like character. Each case study will provide an opportunity to integrate the previous course learning into real-world practice. Prerequisite: Successful completion of all core MS or MBA Healthcare Administration courses.

HCAD-730 Organizational, Community, and Global Health Administration

In this course, students will evaluate new applications of healthcare administration knowledge in the global workplace, design solutions to healthcare administration problems using new applications of theory or changes in present standards, and synthesize virtuous health strategies to complement government and payer priorities that have an impact on the social determinants of health. Students will create solutions to population health issues across the continuum of care and integrate a virtuous worldview in both their personal and professional lives.

HCAD-731 Healthcare Law, Governance, and Ethics

Students who have completed this course will be able to evaluate new approaches in healthcare law, governance, and ethics in the global workplace, design solutions to healthcare administration problems using new applications of theory or changes in present standards, and critique the legal, ethical, and governance issues faced by healthcare organizations. Students will integrate a worldview of bioethical risk management considerations in healthcare administration that is in alignment with the Virtuous Business Model and integrate healthcare law and policy into virtuous strategic decision-making.

HCAD-732 Healthcare Innovation, Informatics, and Change Management

In this course, students will evaluate new applications of healthcare innovation, informatics, and change management theory in the global workplace, design solutions to healthcare administration problems using new applications of theory or changes in present practice, and synthesize informatics leadership models that promote innovation in the healthcare industry. Students will design processes which utilize data and ethical analysis to formulate virtuous health administration change and will integrate a virtuous worldview in both their personal and professional lives.

HCAD-733 Issues in Strategic Planning and Organizational Development for Healthcare Administrators

In this course, students will evaluate new applications of healthcare administration strategic planning and organizational development theory in the global workplace. Students will design solutions to healthcare administration problems using new applications of theory or changes in present standards. Students will design new business approaches that include the assumption of risk and changing payment structures. Students will formulate transformational change strategies to the evolving healthcare environment and integrate the Virtuous Business Model into their personal and professional lives.

HCAD-790 Applied Doctoral Program Evaluation and Assessment - Healthcare Administration

This is the culminating course of the DBA program in which students will defend their doctoral project. Students will integrate forward-thinking virtuous leadership concepts into global team-based business practice, create ethical change management solutions and strategies for complex business problems, and design solutions to healthcare administration problems using new applications of theory or changes in current healthcare practices. Students will synthesize research in education, consulting, or business leadership into their doctoral-level practice to create new healthcare administration knowledge for application in the global workplace. Students will integrate a virtuous worldview into both their personal and professional lives. Prerequisite: Completion of all other required courses with the exception of BADM-785
