An overall view of the business field including the business environment; organization, management, and operating problems of the enterprise; financial management and the risk function; and the marketing function. No prerequisite.

This course is designed to enable the student to understand the importance of ethics in business. This course provides students with a foundational understanding of business. Ownership, operating structures, and management and leadership will be addressed. Key business operations such as human resources, information and technology, and accounting and financial management will be introduced. The impact of government, global markets, ethics, and social responsibility on business operations will be presented. Students will have the opportunity to review and compare different economic structures. Biblical and ethical principles will be applied to concepts covered in the course.

This course will prepare students to understand and execute the home purchasing process to include the need for strong credit, property search, property negotiation, purchase agreements, home warranties, homeowners' insurance, financing, closing, home inspections, construction, and decisions related to the hiring of real estate professionals. Students will also learn how to prepare property for sale as well as implement a program to successfully market their home.

Designed to give a basic understanding of the law and its effects upon the world of business. Topics considered include contracts, agency, employment law, sales, commercial paper, security devices, business organizations, property, estates, bankruptcy, and the Uniform Commercial Code. Also gives credit for POL majors. Prerequisite: BUS-100. In order to waive this prerequisite, majors from other Divisions may submit a written request to the Business Division for consideration.

Students will apply legal terminology to an evaluation of laws from various federal and state statutory law and judicial opinions sources. The student will compare and contrast torts, crimes and contract law, different forms of business organizations, including agencies, sole proprietorships, partnerships, corporations, and limited liability companies as they relate to the legal environment of business. As laws are rapidly changing, the student will explain important legal issues involving employment law, wages, hours, and layoffs; employee privacy, employment discrimination, and worker health, safety, and income security. The legal environment will be viewed using biblical principles to make business decisions.

This course examines entrepreneurship with a focus on applying relevant concepts to assess business opportunities and plan for business success. Students will learn to analyze specific business issues and apply the strategic management process to business opportunities. In addition, students will apply financial ratio analysis and the principles of cash management to a small business and learn to evaluate a business plan.

BUS-304 Current Topics in Business

A seminar class with the objective of using a popular current business book or periodical as the bas is of discussion of new ideas in business. In addition to raising awareness of new ideas, the course requires each student to evaluate the practical application of these ideas and their potential effectiveness. May be repeated twice. BUS-315 Fraud Examination

This course will enable students to learn now and why various types of frauds are committed and how they may be deterred. Students will be equipped with the professional skills necessary to detect and prevent fraud and other white-collar crimes. The material covered in this course will be of special interest to accountants, business owners/managers, auditors, loss prevention specialists, attorneys, educators, and criminologists. In addition to lectures, discussions, and textbook readings, the interactive workshops will allow students to uncover fraud in selected, realistic case studies. Prerequisite: Basic accounting.

BUS-382 Business Administration Internship

An opportunity for advanced students to obtain valuable work experience and gain expertise in relating classroom material to actual business endeavor. A professional-quality paper analyzing one or more business applications will be prepared under departmental faculty supervision. Prerequisites: One 300/400 level course within the DeVoe Division of Business major core classes, and Admission to the DeVoe Division of Business.

BUS-390 International Business - Travel

This travel course provides students with the opportunity to briefly immerse themselves in other cultures so that they can better understand how businesses operate elsewhere in the world. Students will explore first-hand how business decision-making is impacted by cultural, political, economic and social differences as well as the cultural complexities of differing values and beliefs. Students will also explore the role that American business can play in mutually beneficial relationships across borders. Learning to adapt to the various challenges associated with international travel and living in another culture will be a significant part of the students' experience. Intercultural credit may be met by successfully completing ACC-390/BUS-390. Prerequisite: Admission to the Division and International Trip Application Approval.
