EDUO-704 Fundamentals for Instructional Design for Online Learning

Behind every good learning environment (such as a website, app, webinar, online course, workshop, or interactive museum exhibit) is the work of an instructional designer. Instructional design is a creative process that uses learning theories and frameworks, project-planning, content expertise, communication, writing, and technology to engineer experiences for today's learners. This course emphasizes a systematic instructional planning process where educators learn how to effectively prepare online teaching for each grade band. Current face-to-face educators who are challenged with the task of transitioning their existing course materials to an online platform with minimal resources as well as those who are new to the instructional design process for online environments will benefit from this learning experience.

3

EDUO-704A Application of Fundamentals for Instructional Design for Online Learning

Utilizing the skills and knowledge learned from the EDUO-604 Micro-Credential, this application course challenges candidates to demonstrate a systematic instructional design process that applies learning theories and frameworks, project-planning, content expertise, communication, writing, and technology for the P-12 online learning environment.

1

EDUO-705 Designing an Online Course

Candidates will complete a course design project demonstrating the depth and breadth of their educational growth that highlights the knowledge and skills gained as a reflective practitioner and educational leader in online education. Candidates will work in an innovative collaborative model with peers and the course instructor to design an online course utilizing these new concepts.

3

EDUO-706 Leading Innovation and Change in Online Learning Environments

This course prompts educational front runners to explore topics related to leading innovative change in P-12 online educational environments. Through the study of Rogers' Diffusion of Innovation Theory and various leadership approaches, candidates will learn how to successfully navigate educational, organizational, and institutional change. Utilizing a problem-based learning (PBL) approach, candidates will develop a change management plan proposal pertaining to innovation implementation.

3

EDUO-708 Exploring Issues and Trends in Educational Technology and Learning Engineering

This course surveys the educational technology and learning engineering fields and how they intersect with the context of P-12 online learning environments. As new learning models and innovations emerge, new trends, challenges, and limitations will follow. Candidates will examine these issues through a global lens and reflect upon how they affect local educational settings. Through a problem-based approach, candidates will develop solutions and opportunities for their local educational environments.

3

EDUO-710 Designing Online School Learning Environments

Good design is a continuous improvement process that combines scientific principles and data-driven methods to achieve desired outcomes. In this course, candidates will learn how to design innovative online experiences, interactions, and technologies that make learning and engagement more effective and efficient. Candidates will practice instructional design using learning science theories and learning engineering to discover insights into how learners think.

3

EDUO-712 Advanced Learning Applications

This highly interactive project-based course requires candidates to engage in emerging technology innovations (ETI) that enable learning and teaching from a different perspective while mastering the use of an array of learning applications. As both rising educational technologists and learning engineers, candidates will explore, analyze, and evaluate ETIs through the lens of the Diffusion of Innovation Theory. Candidates will be challenged to consider how to most effectively implement or adapt ETIs based on sociopolitical, economic, and educational backgrounds. Close consideration will be placed, but not limited to immersive virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), gaming, simulations, educational graphic design, audio and video production, social networks, web page, and LMS design.
