Office and Workspace Furniture Policy and Standards
I. Scope
This policy impacts all National and Global employees.
II. Policy Statement
IWU National and Global has adopted guidelines for private office and cubicle furnishings to ensure consistency in furnishing provided to employees.
III. Reason for the Policy
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that National and Global employees have appropriate workspace furnishings.
IV. Procedures
Standard Set Ups
- Private office spaces will contain the following furniture elements:
- Desk
- Task chair
- Work supplies storage area/space
- File storage area/space
- Book or resources storage area/space (most likely some type of bookcase)
- Guest seating
- Cubicle or other work areas will contain the following furniture elements:
- Desk
- Task chair
- Work supplies storage area/space
- File storage area/space
- Book or resources storage area/space as necessitated by job duties and approved by supervisor (could be small bookcase or overhead bin)
Additional furnishings
Furniture requested beyond the base elements above will be evaluated on a case by case basis and decisions will be based on the essential tasks and duties of the position occupying the space rather than personal preferences or desires. In situations where the university decides additional furnishings are not required, office occupants are permitted to make arrangements for additional personal items to be used or items from the IWU mart, subject to a determination that they are not counter or detract from the aesthetics or décor in the affected area.
Aesthetic standards
The university will make every reasonable effort to maintain aesthetic standards with regard to type, color, etc. of furnishings within the same office suites and areas. Adjustments to existing offices/workspaces Adjustments to furnishings or set ups in existing offices or work areas will be based on functionality with regard to duties and tasks to be completed in the area rather than individual personal preferences.
