I. Scope
This policy impacts all National and Global employees.
II. Policy Statement
IWU National and Global has adopted guidelines for non-faculty employees wishing to serve as adjunct faculty in National & Global programs in order to ensure the quality of an employee’s job performance and adjunct teaching.
III. Reason for the Policy
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that National and Global employees have appropriate balance between their primary job duties and their adjunct teaching duties.
IV. Procedures
The following criteria must be met for an employee to teach as an adjunct over and above their regular full-time responsibilities:
- Only one (1) course may be taught at a time regardless of which PAU it is for. Full-time faculty members will continue to follow the $15,000 per year limit for both teaching and non-teaching assignments.
- Any exception to the above criteria must have the following in writing:
- Written justification of the need from the requesting school/department
- Written approval from the employee’s direct supervisor
- Requests to teach across PAUs must have written approvals from:
- Employee’s direct supervisor
- Head of the PAU for which the teaching will be done
- An employee may not have a formal corrective action in their file
- An employee’s supervisor has the right to limit, restrict and deny an employee’s ability to teach as an adjunct.
