EDUT-410 Empowering Innovators: Dynamic Teaching for the Modern Classroom

Empowering Innovators prepares candidates to inspire critical thinking, creativity, and independent learning in diverse middle school or secondary content area (e.g., science, mathematics, English/Language Arts) classrooms. This course integrates project-based learning, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and culturally responsive teaching to create inclusive, flexible, and engaging environments that promote global awareness and real-world problem-solving. Candidates will explore strategies for leveraging digital tools, interdisciplinary approaches, and effective communication techniques to design data-driven instruction. Emphasizing formative and summative assessments, reflection, and goal setting, the course equips candidates to foster student engagement, motivation, and success in the modern, interconnected world. Field experiences are required. Prerequisite: EDUT-350

EDUT-448 Elementary Classroom Management

This course involves research-based methodologies for managing the elementary classroom. Legal, procedural, behavioral, and physical environment expectations related to classroom management that impact student learning are explored. Access to an elementary classroom setting required. Prerequisite: EDUT-310

EDUT-450 Methods of Teaching for the Elementary Classroom

This course examines multiple, developmentally appropriate approaches and methods of teaching in elementary education. The candidates also examine cultural responsiveness, global awareness, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and differentiation in the context of the different teaching approaches and methods. Prerequisite: EDUT-310

EDUT-455 Teaching Methods in the Elementary Content Areas

Candidates will examine approaches, methods, and strategies related to elementary content areas: English-language arts, math, science, social studies, fine arts, and health, wellness, and physical education. The course also emphasizes using academic standards, methods of planning and delivering instruction, and effectively assessing students' understanding and mastery of essential concepts and skills in each content area. Prerequisite: Successful completion of all courses in the Elementary Teacher Training Concentration.

EDUT-460 Blueprints for Belonging: Literacy-Rich and Inclusive Learning Environments

Blueprints for Belonging empowers candidates to create inclusive, literacy-rich classrooms that inspire engagement, collaboration, and academic growth. This course emphasizes designing culturally responsive environments that foster a sense of belonging, high expectations, and self-motivation while adapting to virtual, hybrid, and face-to-face settings. Candidates will explore evidence-based strategies to enhance content-area literacy, build academic language, and deepen comprehension through targeted reading and writing practices. Additionally, the course focuses on optimizing classroom management, schedules, and physical spaces to maximize learning opportunities while engaging families and communities as partners in literacy development. By equipping candidates to cultivate confident and connected learners, this course transforms teaching into a blueprint for student success. Field experiences are required. Prerequisite: EDUT-350

EDUT-470 Elementary Students with Diverse and Different Learning Needs

Candidates will examine characteristics of students with diverse and different learning needs, including the disabilities outlined in IDEA, and meeting their specific needs in the classroom. The course also emphasizes adaptations for creating a positive learning environment for students with diverse and different learning needs. Field experience required. Prerequisite: Successful completion of all courses in the Elementary Teacher Training Concentration.

EDUT-475 Literacy Assessment and Intervention for Elementary Educators

Candidates use the strategies, methods, and materials to implement literacy-based instruction. Also included in the course is an investigation of Response to Intervention (RTI) as it pertains to literacy instruction. Field experience required. Prerequisite: Successful completion of all courses in the Elementary Teacher Training Concentration.

This course examines various approaches to teaching and learning in secondary education. This course addresses differentiated instruction, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), project-based learning, cultural competency, and global competency. Prerequisites: EDUT-311

EDUT-480 Classroom Management for Secondary Teachers

This course emphasizes theories of learning and instruction and involves research-based methods for managing a secondary classroom. Legal and cultural expectations associated with classroom management that impact student learning environments are explored. Access to a secondary classroom or learning environment is required. Prerequisites: EDUT-311

This course requires an active, practical application of candidates' developing pedagogical skills. Supervised field experience required. Prerequisites: Successful completion of all courses in the minor.

EDUT-495A Building Bridges: Transformative Student Teaching

Building Bridges focuses on the dynamic intersection of collaborative clinical experiences, reflection, and professional growth. Student Teaching equips teacher candidates with the tools to build meaningful partnerships with parents, community stakeholders, and professional peers, leveraging digital tools and communication strategies to enhance student learning. Teacher candidates will develop skills for navigating legal and ethical responsibilities, and fostering inclusive, equitable learning environments. Emphasizing self-assessment and reflection, teacher candidates will be prepared for the complexities of modern education and will emerge as reflective, collaborative, and resilient educators ready to inspire and lead. Supervised clinical experiences are required. Prerequisite: Successful completion of all courses in the major.
