MGMT - Management

MGMT-500 Applied Management Theory

This course focuses on the functions of management, along with a conceptual framework and the practical skills necessary for managing effectively in the global business environment. Particular emphasis is placed on developing critical thinking skills and enhanced cultural awareness to analyze and develop creative solutions to challenging management dilemmas.

MGMT-501 Foundations of Graduate Business

Students in this course will review the foundational knowledge of graduate business and evaluate conceptual frameworks dealing with virtuous business, critical thinking, and faith integration. An emphasis is placed on developing the critical thinking skills and enhanced cultural awareness needed for the global marketplace. An emphasis is placed on the competencies and personal behaviors needed to deliver projects on-time and on budget. Students will also develop an appreciation for stewardship, a life purpose statement, and a lifelong personal development plan. Application and implementation of course theories and concepts in an organizational setting will be addressed through embedded, experiential learning experiences and activities within the course.

MGMT-512 Ethical and Legal Aspects of Management

In this course students will examine business ethics and social responsibility as deliberate organizational development strategies in a competitive global environment. Students will engage in decision-making exercises that take into account biblical standards, ethical theories, business law, and regulatory compliance as the bases of professional conduct. Application and implementation of course theories and concepts in an organizational setting will be addressed through embedded, experiential learning experiences and activities within the course.

MGMT-520 Organizational Behavior

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to understand individual and organizational behavior in a diverse global environment. Students will apply a biblical worldview and ethical framework to concepts of organizational behavior on topics that include diversity, attitudes and behavior, personality, perception, motivation, job design, work teams, groups, leadership, communication, organizational structure and culture, change, emotions and moods, and human resource practices. Application and implementation of course theories and concepts in an organizational setting will be addressed through embedded, experiential learning experiences and activities within the course.

MGMT-522 Business Strategy and Policy

This course contextualizes the functions of business within a framework of strategic management that considers the direction and goals of an enterprise; social, political, technological, economic, and global factors; industry and market structures; and organizational strengths and weaknesses. Emphasis is placed on the critical analysis of businesses from a general management perspective and the consideration of cultural and ethnicity differences as means for creating value and ensuring sustainable organizational success. Students will develop and evaluate a virtuous business framework that is tailored for specific industry and organization situations. Application and implementation of course theories and concepts in an organizational setting will be addressed through embedded, experiential learning experiences and activities within the course.

MGMT-528 Global Management

Students will examine the theoretical concepts of business globalization and their impact on culture. The ways culture influences global alliances and acquisition will be addressed. Students will defend multicultural competency as a necessary skill for managerial success. Cultural differences and how they impact business decision making and strategic planning will be analyzed. Students will articulate the importance of integrating a Christian worldview within global business practice. Application and implementation of course theories and concepts in an organizational setting will be addressed through embedded, experiential learning experiences and activities within the course.

MGMT-532 Leadership and Organizational Change

This course examines the roles managers play in implementing change, the challenges associated with managing planned and unplanned organizational change, and approaches to the implementation and anchoring of change. Students will study change interventions that drive organizational renewal while paying careful attention to ethical communication and communication management, employee care, positive work culture, and strategic alliances. Students will also evaluate their personal leadership capabilities and design a plan for self-improvement and continual growth. Application and implementation of course theories and concepts in an organizational setting will be addressed through embedded, experiential learning experiences and activities within the course.

MGMT-533 Personal and Professional Competencies for Leadership

Research reveals that leaders with a firm grasp on their identity are more effective than those who do not possess this knowledge. This course is designed to assist students in the self-discovery of their strengths, personality types, and conflict management styles. It will also examine the importance of Godly character and how individuals make decisions that stem from their character. By exploring these personal attributes in conjunction with the spiritual reality of their identity in Christ, the participants in this course will gain a greater understanding of how they can manage effectively.

MGMT-534 Management Theory for Constituent Engagement

Researchers are constantly producing new and rich information to increase the effectiveness of managers. This class will inform students of "best practice" techniques in management theory so managers can better inculcate their vision and values to the organization and its constituents. To that end, leveraging technology for value creation is highly important to engage one's audience, because new technologies can promote causes and inform both the organization and the general public of relevant events. By employing current social media tools to engage their constituents, this class can inform managers how to best build a platform to communicate their goals.

MGMT-540 Non-Profit Development and Advancement

Candidates in this course evaluate non-profit development strategies and assess the market structure and environments to determine the crucial factors impacting development. Candidates create advancement strategies for donor development, donor relations, grants, network development, branding, and corporate sponsorships that result in sustainable funding. Candidates use a biblical framework to develop an integrated marketing communication strategy to all stakeholders incorporating emerging media.

MGMT-541 Innovation Management

Candidates in this course evaluate organizational cultures and structures that support innovation, continuous improvement and provocation, and assess leadership and motivational theories for adaptability and visioning within a biblical framework. Candidates create project plans utilizing organizational resources to accomplish desired change, and develop communication, collaboration, and human capital strategies for innovation and change.

MGMT-590 Applied Management Capstone

This course presents opportunities for students to demonstrate an integrated understanding of sound business principles, biblical and ethical standards, and best practices in management. Students will complete a previously approved project that involves a product, service, or organizational unit as the focus for development of an idea or resolution of a business problem. Working in close consultation with the course instructor, students will formulate and defend a plan of action for the identified opportunity or problem and prepare a formal presentation of the completed project.

MGMT-601 Foundations of Doctoral Business

Students in this course will review the foundational knowledge of doctoral business. The student's understanding of the common proficiency components (CPCs) of business will be reviewed and improved as needed. An emphasis is placed on developing the critical thinking skills and enhanced cultural awareness needed for the global marketplace. Application and implementation of course theories and concepts in an organizational setting will be addressed through embedded, experiential learning experiences, and activities within the course. This course is a prerequisite for the Doctor of Business Administration for incoming students that do not have an undergraduate or graduate degree in business. Students must complete this prerequisite course with at least a "B" by the end of the first term of the program.

MGMT-730 Negotiation and Conflict Management

In this course, students will evaluate new applications in communications and conflict management theory and their impact on business problems. Students will diagnose cultural components of specific conflict management situations occurring within a global environment and integrate a personal philosophy of reconciliation with conflict management resolution based upon the Virtuous Business Model.

MGMT-731 Organizational Development

In this course, students will evaluate the organizational development aspects of business problems and recommend solutions. Students will diagnose organizational culture and its impact upon the organization's success. Students will evaluate cultural transformation strategies and their impact on organizational development and will integrate the Virtuous Business Model into all parts of organizational development.

MGMT-732 Innovation and Change Management

In this course, students will evaluate change management strategies for use in the global workplace and assess factors influencing the development of a culture of innovation. Students will develop a personal change management framework informed by the Virtuous Business Model, evaluate new applications of theory and changes in present practice and their impact on change management problems, and create change management plans to address organizational issues.

MGMT-733 Vision and Virtue: Keys to Strategic Planning

In this course, students design strategic organizational plans aligned with the organization's virtues, values, and resources that are responsive to the external environment and consistent with the Virtuous Business Model. Students will assess leadership and management change theories for consistency with the Virtuous Business Model. Students will assess emerging changes in an organization's external environment and communicate a clear strategic vision.

MGMT-790 Applied Doctoral Program Evaluation and Assessment - Management

This is the culminating course of the DBA program in which students will present their doctoral project. Students in this course will synthesize new management knowledge and skills for application in the global workplace leading to advanced ethical change management solutions and strategies for complex business problems. Students will demonstrate forward-thinking virtuous leadership within the global team-based business environment and integrate a virtuous worldview in both their personal and professional lives. Students will design solutions to real-world management problems using new applications of theory or changes in present practice. Students must have successfully defended their Applied Doctoral Project report. Students will complete their academic and trade journal papers suitable for publication. Prerequisite: Completion of all other required courses with the exception of BADM-785

MGMT-791 Scholar-Practitioner Seminar: Management

In this course, students further develop and refine their voices as scholar practitioners through active exchange within communities of practice and scholarship. Students will draw on critical and creative mastery of a broad range of concepts, theories, and practices, as well as be aware of the assumptions underlying them from perspectives which go beyond individual disciplines and contexts. Grounded in theory and research, informed by experiential knowledge, motivated by personal values, and through the lens of a virtuous worldview, students will synthesize new business administration knowledge and skills for application in the global workplace. These reflect solutions to real-world management problems using new applications of theory or changes in present practice. Students will develop skills to effectively communicate their findings in a variety of formats including peer-reviewed written or oral venues. Prerequisite: Completion of all other required courses with the exception of BADM-785 and BADM-792.
