CYB - Cyber Security

This course explores the roles of risk management in ensuring the security of information systems. Areas of study include standards, policies, best practices, and compliance laws for risk management. The course discusses methods of assessing, analyzing, and managing risks. Learning how to create a business continuity plan, disaster recovery plan, and computer incident response team plan for a given scenario within an organization will also be addressed. Students will have the opportunity to audit, test, and monitor an information technology system. The application of biblical wisdom and Christian ethics as it relates to the field of cybersecurity will be addressed. Concepts covered in this course will help prepare students for the CySA+, Network+, and Security+ Certification exam.

This course explores computer networking, telecommunications technologies, and network security. Students analyze the performance, management, and security challenges associated with network communications infrastructure through voice, data, and video applications. Additional topics covered include Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), firewalls, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), tools for managing infrastructure security, and methods of strengthening infrastructure security. Topics include implementing secure remote access, implementing Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and encryption solutions, and mitigating risk from unauthorized access through proper testing and reporting strategies. Students will examine various methods and techniques to identify and countermeasure risks associated with Web applications, cloud security, and social networking. The architecture and design, cloud administration, legal issues, risk avoidance, and compliance will be addressed. This course addresses hacking techniques and countermeasures in information systems. Tools and techniques that can be used for identifying system vulnerabilities that hackers use will be addressed. Students are provided an opportunity to practice ethical hacking procedures for attempting unauthorized access to target systems and data. Incident handling procedures in case of an information security compromise are addressed. The application of biblical wisdom and Christian ethics as it relates to the field of cybersecurity will be addressed. Concepts covered in this course will help prepare students for the CySA+, Network+, and Security+ Certification exam. Prerequisite: Successful completion of all required program or certificate courses.
