BS - Service and Leadership
The Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Service and Leadership will prepare students to lead through service to their organization, community, country, and world. Service reflects attitudes and actions focused on helping, providing, or giving, often in ways that do not produce a tangible commodity but offer support and assistance to humans, individually and collectively. Service may occur within both public and private sector contexts in a variety of forms such as military service, customer service, charity, mental or physical support, or even functions embedded in human resources or financial services. Anchored in the liberal arts, students will examine what it means to develop the self as leader to better relate to, inspire, and serve others to achieve organizational goals within career contexts of interest to the student. Service members and veterans may capitalize on their military experience and transfer credits from Military Occupation Specialties (MOS), Naval Ratings and the Navy Enlisted Classification System (NEC) system, and Air Force Specialty Codes (AFSC) on a Joint Services Transcript (JST), Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcript, or Coast Guard Ratings. The program also offers its graduates the opportunity to utilize IWU’s credit crossover policy to achieve advanced standing toward a Master of Public Administration, Master of Arts with a major in Organizational Leadership, Master of Science with a major in Management, or Master of Business Administration.
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Analyze the key components of effective service and leadership within the context of personal, team, and organizational dynamics.
- Apply leadership and followership theories and models within diverse multi-cultural and global settings.
- Integrate leadership principles and practices with interdisciplinary and service perspectives.
- Integrate faith perspectives, critical thinking, and ethical decision-making with personal development and professional practice as a leader.
Admission Requirements
The admission requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Service and Leadership offered through the College of Adult and Professional Studies are as follows:
- Proof of high school graduation or GED certification.
- Original transcripts from all previous college or university study at a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
- Prior completion of at least 60 transferable credit hours is required before the student is eligible to start a bachelor core program.
Transfer Credit Policy
Transfer credit for core curriculum requirements for undergraduate programs within the College of Adult and Professional Studies may be granted as follows:
- Credit must have been earned at a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) with a minimum grade of "C".
- Courses must be approved by the Division of Leadership & Followership Studies.
- Credit documented on a JST or CCAF transcript for training received in any MOS, NEC system, AFSC, and Coast Guard Ratings.
Assessed credit for degree requirements may be granted through IWU's assessment of prior learning.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate with a baccalaureate degree from the College of Adult and Professional Studies at Indiana Wesleyan University, the following requirements must be met:
- Completion of 120 semester hours.
- Completion of the required core courses with a GPA of 2.25 or higher.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Completion of 30 hours of general education as specified (General Education Requirements).
- Payment of all tuition and fees is required to receive a diploma.
