AS - Aviation Operations

The Associate of Science with a major in Aviation Operations degree readies graduates to serve as crew schedulers, aircraft dispatchers, and operational roles for those seeking employment as non-pilots in the commercial aviation field. The degree is appropriate for entry-level and mid-level leadership opportunities. Students earn their FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate.

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Understand the industry ecosystem and regulations related to safe operations for various commercial air operations. 
  • Demonstrate risk management, decision-making, aeronautical knowledge, and dispatching skills to the standards of an FAA Aircraft Dispatcher certificate holder as described in 14 CFR Part 65, Subpart C. 
  • Develop ethical solutions for essential aviation operations using critical thinking.

The curriculum will be completed in the order established by Indiana Wesleyan University. Indiana Wesleyan University reserves the right to modify the curriculum as necessary.

Admission Requirements

The admission requirements for the associate degree programs offered through the College of Adult and Professional Studies are as follows:

  • Proof of standard high school diploma, GED certification, or current high school transcript for approval by the Aviation Program Director.
  • Submission of all required items for the admissions process as outlined in the "application procedures" section of the application packet.

Transfer/Assessed Credit Policy

Transfer credit for degree requirements for undergraduate programs within the College of Adult and Professional Studies may be granted as follows:

  • Credit must have been earned at a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) with a minimum grade of "C".
  • Courses must be approved by the DeVoe School of Business, Technology, & Leadership.
  • Associate programs offered through the College of Adult and Professional Studies require a minimum of 15 credit hours of courses in the academic major to be taken at Indiana Wesleyan University.
  • Credit documented on a JST or CCAF transcript for training received in any MOS, NEC system, AFSC, and Coast Guard Ratings.

Assessed credit for degree requirements may be granted through IWU’s assessment of prior learning process for the following:

  • Corresponding coursework documented on a transcript/certification from a recognized national, state, county, or municipal training council or academy.
  • Documentation of FAA Certificates and Ratings.

Additional Requirement for This Program

  • Students should be prepared to pay additional course fees and meet all other legal and age requirements to take the FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate Knowledge and Practical Exams. Certificate holders must also meet the minimum age and other legal requirements to exercise its privileges.

Graduation Requirements

To graduate with an associate degree with a major in Aviation Operations from the College of Adult and Professional Studies at Indiana Wesleyan University, the following requirements must be met:

  • Completion of 60 semester hours.
  • Completion of foundational requirements, specified General Education Requirements, and major requirements.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher.
  • Completion of a minimum 15 hours (or 25%) of the degree requirements at Indiana Wesleyan University. 
  • Payment of all tuition and fees is required to receive a diploma.
