Dual Enrollment

General Requirements

Prospective dual enrollment students must be current high school level student with a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Prospective students will request approval from his/her principal or designated academic leader to enroll in coursework. Students will submit their school’s approval documentation along with evidence of their high school GPA, via an official transcript or letter from the school/academic leader. Upon acceptance, the student will be enrolled as an unclassified dual enrollment student.

Schools are encouraged to have a Dual Enrollment Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University. The MOU will clarify the policies of the initiative and identify the courses that the school approves for its students. Students from schools without an established MOU are permitted to enroll in courses; however, it is the students’ responsibility to secure approval from the school’s leadership regarding the awarding of high school credit for courses.

All student handbook, catalog, and university policies (i.e. engagement policy), or course specific admissions requirement (i.e. background checks) apply to dual enrollment students.

Grade Reporting and Awarding of High School Credit

Upon successful completion of the course and/or term, final grades will be submitted by the faculty to the university and included on the student’s official transcript. To report the grade to the high school, the student will request an official transcript through the university’s digital transcript service to be submitted to their high school.

Students who matriculate to IWU must meet minimum grade requirements for their enrolling program. Classes that are failed or fall below the minimum grade requirement can be retaken following the University’s current retake policies.

Tuition, Fees, and Textbooks

Dual enrollment students are responsible for payment of all tuition. Dual enrollment students are responsible for the payment of all fees. Fees may not be waived in cases where the student enrolls in a course with embedded resources that require an additional fee beyond tuition. Students will automatically receive textbooks through IWU's chosen supplier and distributor, Slingshot. Students may opt out of this textbook program on an individual basis.
