LMS Non-Academic Course Homepage Policy

I. Scope
This policy applies to employee, faculty and student courses that are manually managed within the Learning Management System.
II. Policy Statement
To create a standard policy for how the UI of non-academic courses are to be designed and applied in a scalable manner.
III. Reason For The Policy
To provide a working homepage for courses manually created within the LMS as some of the items on the homepage only works with courses created through the automation.
IV. Procedures
- The LMS Admin team will develop a course homepage for non-academic courses which will contain the following widgets.
- Brightspace Help
- Personal Tasks
- Back to Top
- The LMS Admin team will remove the following widgets which do not function or are not applicable.
- Course Dates and Faculty Biography
- Course Café Forum
- Tools for Success
- Final Grades/iCare Form
- The LMS Admin team will not create any custom navbars, icons, or widgets for non-academic courses. Creating custom items creates:
- Inconsistencies
- Additional work when updates occur
- More items to manage
Rules:
- The defined policy will only pertain to courses created manually in Brightspace for the purpose of training and/or work required outside of the requirements to obtain an academic degree.

V. Definitions
LMS – Learning Management System
UI – User Interface
Non-academic – Courses which are not created in Colleague and do not utilize the automation as a means to create the course or enroll faculty and students into the LMS.
