Hazing
Hazing is prohibited at Indiana Wesleyan University and is a violation of Indiana State law (Indiana Code 35-42-2-2 & 35-42-2-2.5).
Hazing is defined as an intentional, knowing, or reckless act committed by a person (whether individually or in concert with other persons) against another person or persons, regardless of the willingness of such other person or persons to participate, that: (1) is committed in connection with an initiation into, an affiliation with, or the maintenance of membership in, a university or student organization (such as a club, society, athletic team, band, or student government); and (2) causes or creates a risk, above the reasonable risk encountered in the course of participation in IWU activities or the organization (such as the physical training necessary for participation in an athletic team), of physical or psychological injury.
In compliance with the federal Stop Campus Hazing Act, IWU Campus Hazing Transparency Reports summarize findings concerning any IWU-sanctioned student organization found to be in violation of this policy. Statistics on hazing incidents will be available beginning in the 2025 IWU Annual Security Report (published Oct 2026).
