Undergraduate Certificate - Secondary Teacher Training
The Secondary Teacher Training certificate is structured to prepare candidates to apply subject matter expertise, assessment knowledge, and differentiated instructional practices to secondary learning environments. The curriculum emphasizes the major theories and concepts related to learning processes, adolescent development, literacy development, and classroom management.
This program is open to candidates from all states and countries, and does not lead to licensure. Candidates could include parents, Sunday school or classroom teachers, Education event planners, or other professionals in many settings: hospitals, childcare homes, international schools, ACSI schools both stateside and overseas, and private schools.
Candidates who have completed this program should be able to:
- Describe professional, moral, and ethical behaviors and dispositions grounded in related biblical principles.
- Demonstrate research-based knowledge of how and when adolescents learn, addressing developmental and motivational stages.
- Develop a variety of assessments, including digital tools, to evaluate secondary student needs in order to plan and strengthen instruction.
- Design a safe, culturally responsive, and literacy-rich learning environment using sound classroom management strategies and high standards for all secondary learners.
- Develop a variety of differentiated instructional strategies that consider the diverse needs of all secondary students.
Admission Requirements
- Proof of standard high school diploma, GED certification, or country equivalent.
Completion Requirements
To complete the Secondary Teacher Training certificate, candidates must:
- Complete the 18 credit hours with a grade of at least a "C" in each course.
- Payment of all tuition and fees is required to receive a certificate.
