Undergraduate Certificate - Healthcare Leadership

The healthcare industry needs leaders with an understanding of their individual leadership style and the macro environment within which they must operate. Students in the Healthcare Leadership Certificate program will pursue these goals through the examination of self and their perspectives on leadership, exploration of the U.S. healthcare policy development process, consideration of trends and issues in the healthcare industry from a strategic perspective, and utilization of the Pillars of Excellence model to examine ethical leadership and governance structures in highly
reliable healthcare delivery organizations.

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Explore self-development as the foundation for effective leadership. 
  • Apply the Pillars of Excellence model to the governance and leadership of highly reliable healthcare organizations. 
  • Examine the impact of healthcare trends and issues on healthcare organizations’ people, performance, and policy. 
  • Describe the public policy development process that guides the delivery and financing of the U.S. healthcare system. 
  • Apply virtuous business concepts to leadership in the healthcare industry

Admissions Requirements

  • Accepted as a regular degree seeking student or as an unclassified student.
  • Unclassified student requires proof of high school graduation or GED certification.

Transfer credit for certification requirements within the DeVoe School of Business, Technology, & Leadership, College of Adult and Professional Studies, may be granted as follows:

  • Credit documented on an original transcript awarded by a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) with a minimum grade of "C." 
  • Credit documented on a JST or CCAF transcript for training received in any MOS, NEC system, AFSC, and Coast Guard Ratings. 
  • Up to 6 credit hours from a previously-awarded associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree may be applied to fulfill the requirements of an undergraduate certificate.

Assessed credit for certification requirements may be granted through IWU’s assessment of prior learning process for the following:

  • Corresponding coursework documented on a transcript/certification from a recognized national, state, county, or municipal training council or academy.

Graduation Requirements

  • Completion of 12 credit hours.
  • Minimum grade of “C” in each course.
  • Payment of all tuition and fees is required to receive certificate.
