BS - Aviation Management
The Bachelor of Science with a major in Aviation Management degree readies graduates for careers as professional aviation pilots, flight instructors, or management positions with the aviation industry. The program prepares students to earn the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Pilot Certificate, with Single-Engine Land class rating. In addition, graduates will attain an Instrument Rating. The Certified Flight Instructor (Airplane), Certified Flight Instructor-Instrument and Multi-Engine Rating elective courses.
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Apply leadership principles related to safely operating an aircraft in various commercial operations.
- Reflect on their experience of applying their knowledge and skills in the aviation industry.
- Apply relevant technologies to manage changing business conditions.
- Develop ethical solutions for business management opportunities using critical thinking.
- Demonstrate risk management, decision-making, aeronautical knowledge, and piloting skills to the Airman Certification Standards (ACS) for a Commercial Pilot as described by the Federal Aviation Administration.
- Demonstrate risk management, decision-making, aeronautical knowledge, and piloting skills to the Airman Certification Standards (ACS) for an instrument-rated pilot as described by the Federal Aviation Administration.
- Integrate a biblical framework that guides interactions in the aviation industry.
The curriculum will be completed in the order established by Indiana Wesleyan University. Indiana Wesleyan University reserves the right to modify the curriculum as necessary.
Admission Requirements
The admission requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Aviation Management offered through the College of Adult and Professional Studies are as follows:
- Proof of standard high school diploma or GED certification.
- Original transcripts from all previous college or university study at a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
- Possession of a valid Private Pilot Certificate or higher.
- All prospective students must be interviewed and approved by the program director or designee.
- Students must agree to and sign the university’s Aviation Program Waiver of Liability Document.
- Submission of all other required documents and admissions approval by the program director.
In addition, the following Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements will apply:
- Be at least 17 years of age to enter the program.
- Be at least 17 years of age for the Private Pilot Certificate.
- Be at least 18 years of age for the Commercial Pilot Certificate.
- Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language*.
- Complete verification requirements as required by the Transportation Safety Association (TSA), including presenting either of the following: original Passport or original birth-certificate and government-issued photo identification.
- Hold either a First-Class or Second-Class FAA Medical Certificate.
*The “speak” can be satisfied in the interview by the program director, and for international students, the “read” and “write” can be satisfied by a minimum TOEFL score of 79.
Transfer/Credit Policy
Transfer credit for degree requirements for undergraduate programs within the College of Adult and Professional Studies may be granted as follows:
- Credit must have been earned at a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) with a minimum grade of "C".
- Courses must be approved by the DeVoe School of Business, Technology, & Leadership.
- Students must complete at least 30 hours of the core curriculum at Indiana Wesleyan University.
- Credit documented on a JST or CCAF transcript for training received in any MOS, NEC system, AFSC, and Coast Guard Ratings.
Assessed credit for degree requirements may be granted through IWU’s assessment of prior learning process for the following:
- Corresponding coursework documented on a transcript/certification from a recognized national, state, county, or municipal training council or academy.
- Documentation of FAA Certifications and Ratings.
Additional Requirements for This Program
- Students should purchase various piloting devices to perform the functions of a pilot such as a flight computer, current aeronautical charts, headset, etc.
- Students who need more flight training time beyond the budget for each course must add funds to their account to continue their training.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate with a baccalaureate degree major in Aviation Management from the College of Adult and Professional Studies at Indiana Wesleyan University, the following requirements must be met:
- Completion of 120 semester hours.
- Completion of the required core requirements with a GPA of 2.25 or higher.
- Students must maintain a “B” grade in all AVP courses. Failure to maintain the appropriate academic progress may result in suspension from the program.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher.
- Completion of 30 hours of general education requirements as specified (General Education Requirements).
- Payment of all tuition and fees is required to receive a diploma.
- FAA Commercial Certificate with Single or Multi-Engine Land Class Rating.
- FAA Instrument Rating.
