Sanctions and Assignments

The Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards believes in the restorative and developmental process when assigning sanctions for a violation. The goal of all sanctions and assignments is to restore students towards positive behavior and better decision-making while maintaining student accountability. Sanctions are often progressive in nature, starting with warnings and moving to more serious sanctions. The University is not required to impose the same sanctions in all situations involving the same offense, nor is the University required to always impose the maximum sanction. The sanctions assigned in a case may vary and will be based on the individual involved. Additionally, sanctions may be elevated for the following reasons:

  • Pattern of repeated misconduct or multiple violations at the same time
  • Severity of the violation
  • Violation of probation
  • Not being truthful in the disciplinary process
  • Failing to comply with or being blatantly disrespectful toward university personnel

Student Conduct Status

Below is a list of sanctions and assignments that may be applied in the event of a policy violation. The list is not exhaustive; other sanctions or assignments may be used at the discretion of the University official(s). If applicable, other appropriate University personnel may be notified of assigned sanction(s).

Failure to Complete Sanctions or Assignments

Failure to complete sanctions and assignments may result in a new policy violation of Failure to Comply, prevent a student from registering for future courses, or result in administrative withdrawal from the university if the student is already registered for a future term. The response is based on the nature and severity of the original violation and timing within the academic semester.
