Engagement Policy Graduate

For graduate/doctoral level online classes, Wesley Seminary monitors "engagement" rather than "attendance". In order to promote meaningful student learning and success, the expectation is that students will engage on a regular basis in their courses. Engagement is defined as submission of an assignment, posting in a discussion forum, or completion of a test or quiz. Student Success Coordinators (SSC) will make their best attempt to contact students who are not engaging and discuss options that meet the needs of the student.

If a student does not engage during the first 14 days of a course that runs 8 weeks or longer, or within the first 7 days of a a 5-week course, the students will be administratively withdrawn from the course and deferred to the next start. If a student has contacted faculty and/or SCC and is making a good faith effort to participate, an administrative withdrawal may be delayed.

If the student does not engaged in a 2nd consecutive course, the student is administratively withdrawn from the program, unless the students has communicated with SSC to return. Any withdraws from individual courses or the program can have a negative impact on student financial aid and billing.

For onsite/face-to-face classes, engagement is determined as follows: Students are expected to be present when class begins and remain the entire session. Under emergency circumstances, a student may be allowed up to one day of absence from a one week intensive. Absence beyond this point constitutes failure to complete the course. Students need to contact the faculty member regarding make up work.

Students who must miss a course due to unavoidable circumstances must arrange for a temporary leave of absence with the Office of Student Success prior to the beginning of the course. Students needing to withdraw while in a course may do so by arrangement with the Office of Student Success prior to the beginning of the last week of the course, but the regular refund and academic withdrawal policies apply.
