Undergraduate Certificate - Healthcare Human Resource Management

The Healthcare Human Resource Management Certificate is designed to provide students with the prerequisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to engage in fundamental human capital practices in the healthcare industry, including: staffing, performance management, training and development, compensation and benefits, health and safety, credentialing and privileging, and the assessment of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal mandates and operational protocol. The application of virtuous business principles to human resource functions in healthcare settings is discussed throughout the course.

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Evaluate an organization’s management practices to formulate responses to organizational change. 
  • Analyze total rewards practices and their impact on organizational strategy. 
  • Evaluate human resource management strategies in a healthcare setting to align with organizational goals. 
  • Illustrate the importance of credentialing and privileging of healthcare providers. 
  • Apply virtuous business principles to human resource functions in healthcare settings.

Admissions Requirements

  • Accepted as a regular degree seeking student or as an unclassified student.
  • Unclassified student requires proof of high school graduation or GED certification.

Transfer credit for certification requirements within the DeVoe School of Business, Technology, & Leadership, College of Adult and Professional Studies, may be granted as follows:

  • Credit documented on an original transcript awarded by a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) with a minimum grade of "C." 
  • Credit documented on a JST or CCAF transcript for training received in any MOS, NEC system, AFSC, and Coast Guard Ratings. 
  • Up to 6 credit hours from a previously-awarded associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree may be applied to fulfill the requirements of an undergraduate certificate.

Assessed credit for certification requirements may be granted through IWU’s assessment of prior learning process for the following:

  • Corresponding coursework documented on a transcript/certification from a recognized national, state, county, or municipal training council or academy.

Graduation Requirements

  • Completion of 12 credit hours.
  • Minimum grade of “C” in each course.
  • Payment of all tuition and fees is required to receive certificate.
