Graduate Certificate - Physics
The Graduate Physics Certificate is an 18-hour
concentration designed for those seeking the credentials required by
regional accrediting bodies in order to be able to teach advanced
placement, concurrent, and undergraduate college Physics courses at an introductory level. The
courses provide broad understanding of the field of Physics
while strengthening scientific communication and analysis. Designed to be instructed in a Christian environment, the courses incorporate a pedagogical approach designed to nurture Christian faith and understanding.
Upon completion of this program, students should be able to:
- Analyze then synthesize scientific knowledge through the study of physics. (Scientific Knowledge)
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills by explaining
scientific concepts associated with the study of physics. (Critical Thinking
Skills)
- Evaluated then solve physics problems that can be modeled mathematically. (Quantitative Skills)
- Formulate a biblical worldview utilizing the attained scientific knowledge in physics. (Christian knowledge and integration)
Admission Requirements
The admission requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Physics are as follows:
- A baccalaureate or graduate degree from a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) verified on original transcripts sent by the
institution directly to Indiana Wesleyan University.
- A bachelor's degree with a Physics major or must be state
certified (in any state) to teach Physics at a secondary school level.
- An undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher from the baccalaureate
degree granting institution at which at least of minimum of 30 hours was
completed.
Completion Requirements
To complete the Certificate in Physics candidates must show evidence of the following:
- Successful completion of the Graduate Physics Certificate curriculum.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in all graduate work and a minimum grade of "B-" in each course.
- Payment of all tuition and fees is required to receive a certificate.
