BS - Biblical Studies
The Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biblical Studies focuses on studying Scripture carefully and theologically employing the inductive Bible study approach. Students will delve into the background, genre, contents, and theological themes of most books and blocks of the Bible. Attention will also be given to cultural and philosophical dynamics, both in the interpretation and application of Scripture. The focus on Scripture will be complemented by material on theology, spirituality, leadership, and teaching. Graduates will be prepared to serve in ministry positions, especially in roles that emphasize preaching and teaching the Bible and/or as preparation for Masters level divinity, ministry, or Biblical Studies.
Biblical Studies graduates will:
- Describe the relevant background, genre, contents, and theological themes of select books of the Bible.
- Apply the principles and techniques of inductive Bible study to various biblical materials.
- Explain the relevance of diverse historical and cultural circumstances on the interpretation and application of Scripture.
- Relate interpretations of Scripture to key aspects of Wesleyan theology.
- Design Bible study lessons based on exegetical analysis and effective learning techniques.
- Integrate the study of Scripture into one’s own spiritual, character, and leadership formation.
Admission Requirements
The admission requirements for the Bachelor of Science with a Major in Biblical Studies offered through the School of Service and Leadership, College of Adult and Professional Studies are as follows:
- Proof of high school graduation or GED certification.
- Original transcripts from all previous college or university study at a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
- Prior completion of at least 60 transferable credit hours is required before the student is eligible to start a bachelor core program.
Transfer Credit Policy
Transfer credit for core curriculum requirements for undergraduate programs within the College of Adult and Professional Studies may be granted as follows:
- Credit must have been earned at a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) with a minimum grade of "C".
- Students must complete at least 30 hours of the core curriculum at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate with a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Biblical Studies from the School of Service and Leadership, College of Adult and Professional Studies at Indiana Wesleyan University, the following requirements must be met:
- Completion of 120 semester hours.
- Completion of the required core courses with a GPA of 2.50 or higher.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Completion of 30 hours of general education as specified (General Education Requirements).
- Payment of all tuition and fees is required to receive a diploma.
