AS - Christian Ministry Leadership
The Associate of Science degree with a major in Christian Ministry Leadership (ASML) prepares students for entry-level ministry leadership in Christian churches and para-church organizations. It also enables laypersons in local churches to gain greater spiritual development, greater awareness of ministry leadership roles and issues, and enhance their current local church service. This degree seeks to provide academic foundations for ministry leadership health and fruitfulness. This degree seeks to aid student in fulfilling many requirements for District License and Ordination in The Wesleyan Church and other churches. Additionally, it prepares the student for bachelor-level work in Ministry Leadership or Biblical Studies.
Upon completion of the Associate of Science degree with a major in Christian Ministry Leadership, students will be able to:
- Describe the key doctrines of the church, their basis in Scripture and how they shape leadership practices of the church.
- Employ sound interpretive and exegetical methods in order to use the Bible effectively in preaching and teaching.
- Develop a healthy and maturing walk with God, including identifying and practicing personal spiritual disciplines.
- Demonstrate Christ-like character and Christian virtues such as, personal discipline, courage, authenticity, compassion, humility, perseverance, respect of others, and attitude of service.
- Demonstrate respect for the leadership of others while embracing leadership responsibility.
- Effectively manage oneself including the use of time, accountability, and personal support systems.
- Apply biblical and theological knowledge content into the context of one's own experience of life, ministry, and leadership.
This program provides a fundamental basis for students desiring to continue their education at IWU to complete a bachelor's degree in this discipline. The courses contained in this associate program will satisfy 24 hours out of the 30 general education hours required at the bachelor level and will also apply toward the 120 hour Bachelors degree graduation requirement.
Admission Requirements
The admission requirements for the AS in Christian Ministry Leadership offered through the School of Service and Leadership, College of Adult and Professional Studies are as follows:
- Proof of standard high school diploma or GED certification.
Transfer Credit Policy
Transfer credit for core curriculum requirements for undergraduate programs within the College of Adult and Professional Studies may be granted as follows:
- Credit must have been earned at a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) with a minimum grade of "C".
Graduation Requirements
To graduate with an Associates of Science in Christian Ministry Leadership, School of Service and Leadership, College of Adult and Professional Studies at Indiana Wesleyan University, the following requirements must be met:
- Completion of 60 semester hours.
- Completion of the required core (major) courses with a GPA of 2.0 or higher and a minimum of 15 hours of the core (major) taken at Indiana Wesleyan University.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Completion of 24 hours of general education requirements as specified (General Education Requirements).
- Payment of all tuition and fees is required to receive a diploma.
