Undergraduate Certificate - Life Coaching

The Life Coaching Certificate Program provides the foundation for successful graduates to become certified life coaches for individuals, groups, teams, and organizations. Students will be required to participate in synchronous training experiences (face-to-face/onsite) either via video-conferencing or in one of our regional educational centers. Additional training using an online, asynchronous (individual assignments) learning modality will also be required. In addition to learning about the core competencies set forth by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), students will meet the 60 hours of synchronous training and be well prepared to continue their work in becoming certified life coaches.

Students completing this certificate should be able to:

  • Demonstrates ethical practice by consistently applying coaching ethics and standards of coaching. 
  • Implements a coaching mindset that is open, curious, flexible and client centered. 
  • Composes agreements about the coaching relationship, process, plans and goals. 
  • Cultivates trust and safety by providing a supportive environment that allows the client to share freely.
  • Maintains presence by remaining fully conscious and present with clients and by employing a style that is open, flexible, grounded and confident.
  • Demonstrates active listening by focusing on what clients are saying and not saying to fully understand what is being communicated.
  • Facilitates client insight and learning by using tools and techniques such as powerful questioning, silence, metaphor or analogy.
  • Develops partnership with clients to transform learning and insight into action. 9. Promotes client autonomy in the coaching process.

Admission Requirements

  • Accepted as a regular degree-seeking student or as an unclassified student.
  • Unclassified student requires proof of high school graduation.

Completion Requirements

  • Completion of all required courses.
  • Nine of the credits must be earned at IWU for degree-seeking students.
  • Minimum grade of "C" in each course.
  • Payment of all tuition and fees in required to receive certificate.
