EDUT-320 Phonics and English Language Structure

This course provides the tools to implement phonics instruction using scientifically based reading research (SBRR). The tools include strategies for teaching language development, phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, syllables, word families, morphemes, and the cueing systems. Candidates implement data-driven, phonics-based instruction. Access to a lower elementary student required. Prerequisite: EDUT-210

EDUT-321 Literacy Assessment and Intervention for Elementary Educators

This course provides strategies, methods, and materials to support the reading and language arts learning needs of elementary students. Candidates use the strategies, methods, and materials to implement literacy-based instruction. Also included in the course is an investigation of Response to Instruction (RTI) as it pertains to reading and language arts. Access to upper elementary students required. Prerequisite: EDUT-210

EDUT-360 Building Literacy in Secondary Students

This course examines strategic literacy development for secondary learners. The course prepares teachers to develop independent metacognitive readers in their content area, and includes exploration of scientifically based reading research strategies, theories, and processes. Prerequisite: EDUT-211
