Graduate Certificate - Biology
The Graduate Biology Certificate is an 18 hour
concentration designed for those seeking the credentials required by
regional accrediting bodies in order to be able to teach advanced
placement, concurrent, and community college Biology courses. The
courses provide broad understanding of the field of biological science
while strengthening scientific communication and analysis. As this
program is taught and practiced in a Christian environment, all courses
connect aspects of biology to Christian faith.
Upon completion of this program, students should be able to:
- Synthesize scientific knowledge in biology effectively. (Scientific Knowledge)
- Demonstrate critical thinking skill by evaluating and explaining
biological scientific information accurately. (Critical Thinking
Skills)
- Develop skills for solving
quantitative biological problems that can be modeled mathematically.
(Quantitative Skills)
- Formulate a biblical worldview utilizing the attained scientific knowledge in biology
Admission Requirements
The admission requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Biology are as follows:
- A baccalaureate or graduate degree from a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (USDoE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) verified on original transcripts sent by the
institution directly to Indiana Wesleyan University.
- A bachelor's degree with a Biology major or must be state
certified (in any state) to teach Biology at a secondary school level.
- An undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher from the baccalaureate
degree granting institution at which at least of minimum of 30 hours was
completed.
Completion Requirements
To complete the Certificate in Biology candidates must show evidence of the following:
- Successful completion of the Graduate Biology Certificate curriculum.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in all graduate work and a minimum grade of "B-" in each course.
- Payment of all tuition and fees is required to receive a certificate.
