How Eligibility is Determined and Student Financial Aid is Awarded

  • An estimated federal awards package typically is available within a week of submitting the FAFSA. In general, award amounts are based on a student’s Expected Family Contribution found on the Student Aid Report, a student’s enrollment status, the cost of attendance, and other estimated financial assistance. The Financial Aid Office will award a student for the maximum eligibility in scholarship, grant, and loan funds unless otherwise instructed in writing. Complete the Reduced Loan Request form to request a loan amount less than the maximum.
  • Students must be enrolled at least half-time for the term for federal loan funds to be disbursed. Any changes to planned enrollment may affect the amount and/or disbursement date(s) of aid for which the student may qualify.
  • The Financial Aid Office will email notification to the IWU student email account that student financial aid has been awarded and is available for review online via the student portal at https://myiwu.indwes.edu. This secure website will indicate the types and amounts of aid for which the student qualifies. To decline all or a portion of the awarded aid, the student must submit a written request to the Financial Aid Office or all awarded aid will disburse to the IWU student account, as appropriate. Complete the Reduced Loan Request form to request a loan amount less than the maximum. The student does not need to contact the Financial Aid Office to accept an awards package.
