Academic Policy Grievance - School of Health Sciences

An academic policy grievance involves those situations in which a student believes that the university has not followed published policies regarding an academic decision or discrimination based on race, national origin, color, sex, disability, or age, including Title VI, Title IX, and Section 504.  Examples of academic policies include but are not limited to admission criteria, readmission criteria, etc.

All academic policy grievances will be reported to the Dean of the School of Health Science. Because the grievance process is a private university administrative process, legal counsel or representation is inappropriate.

A student who wishes to file an academic policy grievance must follow these procedures:

  • Level 1 - The student must first contact the person whom the student believes did not follow published policies, within 10 business days for a full explanation of the policy and how the policy was or was not followed.
  • Level 2 - If the policy was not followed or the student disputes the way in which the policy was applied, then the student may obtain an Indiana Wesleyan University School of Health Sciences Academic Grievance and Appeal Form from the School of Health Sciences’ Dean’s office requesting such a review. If a properly completed form is not received by the SHS Dean’s office within 10 business days of the date on which the event that gave rise to the complaint occurs, then the student will forfeit any further right to appeal. If this is the case then the Dean will notify the student of the decision, otherwise the matter will move to Level 3.
  • Level 3 - If the matter is not satisfactorily resolved and the Dean’s office receives a properly completed form within the stated time frame as outlined in Level 2, then the Dean will charge the School of Health Sciences Student Appeals Committee to review the matter. The School of Health Sciences Student Appeals Committee will notify the student of its decision, which will be final.
