Online Teaching and Learning Certificate Program
The Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching and Learning is a 15-credit hour lock-step graduate certificate and is designed to provide a solid foundation in learning, technology, design, evaluation, and instructional theories related to online learning and the creation of effective online courses. Candidates will gain experience with a broad range of technology tools and strategies commonly used in online education with multiple opportunities to apply this knowledge in authentic online instructional settings relevant to P-12 online learning environments. The graduate certificate can be applied toward the Master of Science with a major in Online Teaching and Learning. This program is aligned to the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation’s (CAEP) advanced-level program standards and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) for Educators standards.
Candidates who have completed this program should be able to:
- Apply professional ethics and a biblical worldview to teaching and learning, research, technologies, instructional design, assessment strategies, and course development for P-12 online environments.
- Analyze current research, theories, methodologies, practices, and standards for online teaching and learning.
- Evaluate appropriate technologies and tools for optimal student learning and engagement.
- Design authentic learning experiences and assessments using the instructional design process.
- Demonstrate effective online systematic instructional design.
Admission Requirements
To meet the admission requirements for this certificate program, candidates must:
- Have completed a baccalaureate or graduate degree from a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) verified on original transcripts sent by the institution directly to Indiana Wesleyan University. Transcripts from foreign institutions may need to be sent to an outside agency for evaluation and determination of transferable credits, degrees, and GPA. If this outside review is necessary, students are responsible for the initiation of this evaluation and for any fees incurred during the process.
- An undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher from the baccalaureate degree granting institution at which at least a minimum of 30 hours was completed.
- Experience in an education environment.
Graduation Requirements
To complete the graduate certificate in Online Teaching and Learning, candidates must:
- Successfully complete the program curriculum.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in all graduate work and a minimum grade of "B-" in each course.
- Payment of all tuition and fees is required in order to receive a certificate.
