AS - Human Services

The Associate degree with a major in Human Services prepares students for entry-level positions in organizations and agencies wherein social, community, and educational services are provided. Students are introduced to a wide variety of academic disciplines including, Social Work, Addictions Counseling, Psychology, and Criminal Justice. Courses emphasize the development of relevant knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to work successfully in human services. Moreover, students acquire the knowledge necessary to assist individuals, groups, and communities toward the betterment of their lives and livelihoods and to work with persons of diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. 

The completion of the Associate of Science degree with a major in Human Services fulfills the prerequisite requirements to enter into Bachelor’s degree completion programs offered by the College of Adult Professional Studies (CAPS). 

Admission Requirements

The admission requirements for the Associate of Science with a major in Human Services degree program offered through the School of Service and Leadership, College of Adult and Professional Studies are as follows:

  • Proof of standard high school diploma or GED certification

Transfer Policy

Transfer credit for core curriculum requirements for undergraduate programs within the School of Service and Leadership may be granted as follows:

  • Credit must have been earned at a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) with a minimum grade of "C."
  • Credit must be 100 level or above.
  • Associate programs offered through the College of Adult and Professional Studies require a minimum of 15 credit hours of courses in the academic major to be taken at Indiana Wesleyan University. 

Graduation Requirements

To graduate with an Associates of Science in Human Services, School of Service and Leadership, College of Adult and Professional Studies at Indiana Wesleyan University, the following requirements must be met:

  • Completion of 60 credit hours.
  • Completion of the required core (major) courses with a GPA of 2.0 or higher and a minimum of 15 hours of the core (major) taken at Indiana Wesleyan University.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Completion of 24 hours of general education requirements as specified (General Education Requirements).
  • Payment of all tuition and fees is required in order to receive a diploma.
