Admission and Registration

Indiana Wesleyan University welcomes applications for admission from any academically qualified person whose motivation is in keeping with the university's purposes. Admission is based on the careful review of all credentials presented by an applicant, but in no case is admission denied due to race, color, national origin, disability, religion, or sex.

All prospective students are expected to present academic credentials that meet or exceed the minimum requirements for admissions. Admission decisions are made without regard to disabilities. Prospective students with disabilities are not required to identify themselves to Admissions or Disability Services.  However, those interested in receiving academic accommodations are encouraged to connect with Disability Services at 765-677-2257 or ADARequest@indwes.edu as early as possible to allow for a review of documentation and the formulation of an accommodation plan.

Students are admitted in one of the following categories:

• Regular - Students who satisfactorily meet all requirements will be granted standard admission with no restrictions.
• Probation - A graduate student whose entering grade point average (GPA) falls below the minimum required by the program may be accepted on probation. Probationary status will be removed after the student has completed the first three courses of the core with a satisfactory GPA (3.0 for graduate students and 3.25 for doctoral students). In case of extended probation, the number of courses to be completed in order to change status will be determined by the Dean/Chair of the specific school/division. Any student failing to remove the probationary status will be academically suspended from the program.
• Provisional - Students whose files are incomplete may be accepted provisionally at the discretion of the Vice President for Student Experience if it appears from the available documentation that eligibility for the program has been met. The student is given until the end of the first course to submit the required materials. Failure to meet the required deadline will result in the student being dropped from the roster and not being allowed to continue.
• Unclassified - Students not pursuing a university degree who want to take certain courses for special reasons may be accepted for a maximum of 18 hours of undergraduate work or 12 hours of graduate work. Students receiving an unclassified status must reapply for regular admission if they desire later to pursue a degree program.

International/Non-English Speaking Students - Students who do not speak English as their first and primary language must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) prior to admission to Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU).

The IWU required admission scores are listed below, unless otherwise specified by the area of study:

• TOEFL score of 79 for undergraduate, 85 for master’s programs, and 95 for doctorate programs.  
• IELTS score of 6.5 for undergraduate and master’s programs, score of 7 for doctorate programs.

Please note that schools or programs within IWU may require a higher score and/or additional requirements. Students should confirm with their area of study to determine specific requirements.

IWU offers a Waiver option in place of the required TOEFL or IELTS scores.

Waiver qualifications are:

•  Attended four full years at a U.S. high school.

• Attended four full years in an international educational institution where English is the principal language of instruction; institution may be required to provide verification.
• Earned an SAT Reading Test subscore of at least a 27.
• Earned ACT English and Reading scores of at least 20.
• Earned a bachelor's degree or higher from a college or university accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Additional Requirements for all International Students:

Before the immigration form I-20 can be sent, students from all countries must send to the University a letter of financial commitment with certified bank statements, or other official documents, indicating sufficient funds for attendance.

In addition, prior to first day of class all students from all countries must send to IWU proof of health insurance coverage in the U.S. (if applicable).

Please note all students must provide payment for tuition and fees and room and board (if applicable) for the student’s first academically enrolled term as defined by the program’s payment policy.

Registration - Registration occurs at the beginning of the student's program. At this point, students are registered for all courses within the program. Therefore, if a student needs to miss an individual course/intensive visit, official withdrawal must be made through the Office of Student Services. Staff will work with the student to make arrangements to retake this class at a time that will minimize the impact on the student academic progress.

A student who has failed to make arrangements for the payment of tuition for a course will have registration in that course cancelled.
