Undergraduate Certificate - Fundamentals in Life Coaching

The Fundamentals in Life Coaching Certificate Program provides the foundation for learners to work with individuals, groups, teams, and organizations. Students will be required to participate in synchronous training experiences (face-to-face/onsite) either via video-conferencing or in one of our regional educational centers. Additional training using an online, asynchronous (individual assignments) learning modality will also be required.

Students completing this certificate should be able to:

  • Demonstrate ethical practice by consistently applying coaching ethics and standards of coaching. 
  • Implement a coaching mindset that is open, curious, flexible and client centered. 
  • Compose agreements about the coaching relationship, process, plans and goals. 
  • Cultivate trust and safety by providing a supportive environment that allows the client to share freely.
  • Maintain presence by remaining fully conscious and present with clients and by employing a style that is open, flexible, grounded and confident.
  • Demonstrate active listening by focusing on what clients are saying and not saying to fully understand what is being communicated.
  • Facilitate client insight and learning by using tools and techniques such as powerful questioning, silence, metaphor or analogy.
  • Develop partnership with clients to transform learning and insight into action.
  • Promote client autonomy in the coaching process.

Admission Requirements

  • Accepted as a regular degree-seeking student or as an unclassified student.
  • Unclassified student requires proof of high school graduation.

Completion Requirements

  • Completion of all required courses.
  • Nine of the credits must be earned at IWU for degree-seeking students.
  • Minimum grade of "C" in each course.
  • Payment of all tuition and fees in required to receive certificate.
