Student Handbook 2024-2025

The Wildcat Way Promise

Our Wildcat Way of Life starts with Jesus and orients our entire way of life around His. We long for the life of Jesus in every student, so we champion a disciple-making culture—seeking to know Christ and how to live like him. As a worshiping community, we’re being formed in His healthy and holy rhythms. We learn the cadence of vibrant faith through rhythms like beginning classes with prayer, worshiping together in weekly chapel services, and gathering in small groups.

Where society reduces people to an issue, our Wesleyan heritage emphasizes the intrinsic dignity of humanity—just as God is holy, we strive together toward holiness.  Among the essentials of Jesus’ Gospel, we are called toward the active support of women at all levels of ministry leadership, racial reconciliation that celebrates Kingdom diversity, and a Biblical ethic of both marriage and sexuality. Check out The Wesleyan Church to learn more about its core beliefs and practices.

Just as scripture provides us with a guideline, our IWU community also shares values and standards. Students—whether they’re Christ-centered, growing in Christ, exploring Christianity, or pursuing alternatives outside of the Christian faith—are all expected to act with character while enrolled here. As such, each student is responsible for knowing and upholding the community values and standards.

Our commitment to provide transformational experiences to every student requires something of us all—a promise to be cultural contributors to our way of life. As a community we will each promise to strive toward Kindness; because Jesus gave himself fully, we treat one another kindly—emanating generosity, compassion, and respect. We will seek to embrace Belonging because Jesus reconciled us—to Himself and one another—our culture honors, fosters, and empowers our God-given differences. We will demonstrate Integrity because Jesus is truth, we endeavor to be ethical, honest, and trustworthy. We will show Humility because Jesus put others first, we prioritize our community’s good and seek to exhibit His attitude. Lastly, we each will lean into Courage because Jesus endured the cross; we do what’s right with conviction, even in the face of fear. As a beloved part of this community, we will uphold a sincere respect for this way of life.
