Services for Disabled Students

IWU Disability Services

The goal of disability services at Indiana Wesleyan University is to work cooperatively with students to help them reach their maximum academic, social, and personal potential. This is accomplished by integrating legal expectations, Indiana Wesleyan’s standards of service, and Christ-like principles. The Director of Accessibility and Accommodations is a trained professional, responsible for determining accommodation eligibility and for coordinating office services for students with disabilities. The director works with the students, faculty, and staff to design and implement a plan of reasonable accommodations that allows for equal access to all areas of university life.

Equal Access

Indiana Wesleyan University is committed to inclusion and equal access of individuals with disabilities. Individuals will not be discriminated against on the basis of disability or be denied equal access and appropriate accommodation to the educational opportunities available at IWU.

“No otherwise qualified person with a disability in the United States shall, solely on the basis of disability, be denied access to, or the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity in any institution receiving federal financial assistance.” –Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Admissions

Admission decisions are made without regard to disabilities. All prospective students are expected to present academic credentials that meet or exceed the minimum requirements for admissions.

Prospective students with disabilities are not required to identify themselves to the Admissions Office or the Director of Accessibility and Accommodations. However, those interested in receiving academic accommodations are encouraged to meet with, or contact, the Director of Accessibility and Accommodations as early as possible to allow for a review of documentation and the formulation of an accommodation plan.
