Graduate Certificate - Professional Life Coaching

The Graduate Certificate in Professional Life Coaching is designed to equip students with positive psychology theory, skills, and techniques in order to integrate individual and group coaching methods into their chosen professions. The certificate includes a well-rounded education with classes in helping skills, professional coaching ethics, coaching foundations and theory, coaching and self-development, coaching and systems (team, group, and couples coaching), and experiential coaching methods. ( Students would need additional training to achieve certification at the national/international level).

Upon completion of the IWU Professional Life Coaching Graduate Certificate, students will be able to demonstrate:

  • Demonstrate the understanding and practice of obtaining client consent, designing coaching alliance, and appropriate documentation required in a professional coaching relationship.
  • Formulate and articulate an integrative theory of coaching, synthesizing knowledge gained from other program courses in helping skills as well as personal faith.
  • Apply coaching skills and knowledge of assessment methods to client strengths, goal-setting, action planning, and accountability.
  • Analyze the unique impact that coaching can have on teams, couples, and groups and create a group coaching experience, practicing effective documentation, and serving as a systems change-agent.
  • Synthesize coaching theory and practice through the application of coaching competencies, techniques, and intentional experiences in art, music, adventure, or equine-assisted coaching.

Admission Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), verified on official transcripts sent by the institution directly to Indiana Wesleyan University. 
  • An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale from the baccalaureate degree-granting institution at which at least 30 semester hours was completed. 
  • If graduate work has been attempted, all transcripts must be submitted, and a minimum GPA of 3.0 earned.

Graduation Requirements

  • Successful completion of all coursework identified on certificate plan of study.
  • A minimum grade of "C" in each course. A grade of "C-" or below will require the course to be repeated.
  • Overall cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Payment of all tuition and fees is required to receive a certificate.
