Child Life Specialization

This specialization will require a Psychology or Social Work major and the following elective courses.

Psychology majors have many elective options within their major. This concentration in Child Life requires the following electives to their major. Many Psychology majors take these classes on a regular basis as electives but for this specialization, these 5 electives are required.

  • Per the Child Life Council, students wishing to sit for the Child Life Specialist Certification Examination after January 2019 and before 2022 must fulfill the following requirements:
  • Hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree in any field of study
  • Complete 10 college courses in the following areas with the minimum number of courses for each category listed in parentheses:
    • Child Life (1)
    • Child Development (2)
    • Family Systems (1)
    • Therapeutic Benefits of Play (1)
    • Loss/Bereavement or Death/Dying (1)
    • Research (1)
    • Additional courses in Child Life or related content area (3)
