GLM - Global Ministries

This course addresses the role culture plays when communicating and practicing the basic beliefs of historic Christianity. Students will be introduced to intercultural communication theory; asked to analyze how to appropriately convey and practice Christian doctrine in a variety of intercultural settings; and expected to prepare and present an original, scriptural, theologically informed, and cultural relevant dialogue, teaching lesson or sermon. Prerequisite: BIL-101, BIL-102, SOC-225, THE-101.

This course introduces students to the field of language acquisition, particularly as it relates to learning a new language in an intercultural context. In addition to the basics of phonology, morphology, and syntax, the course addresses challenges associated with learning a second language. Reproducible strategies are learned that can be used even in contexts where a language is not written down.

The student will be involved in a significant intercultural experience overseas under the supervision of a professional in the student's area of ministry. Direct exposure involving observation and practical service that relates to classroom instruction will be required. Prerequisites: INT-220.

This course provides an overview of the global expansion of Christianity from apostolic times to the present day. This is accomplished by focusing on core elements and prominent characteristics of Christian faith and practices, featuring key persons that have contributed to spreading Christianity around the world, and promoting reflection regarding how it is contextualized in each place and time.

This course equips students to serve the Kingdom of God in intercultural contexts. Emerging trends and current challenges are examined in the light of biblical, historical and theological perspectives and current social, political and religious realities. Strategies are practiced that move students from learners and observers to participants and co-workers. In addition, students will examine life habits (personal, spiritual and professional) that create long-term success as Kingdom builders in intercultural contexts.
