2025-2026 Catalog

Worship Arts - A.B.

The Worship Arts major is designed to prepare a student to lead worship ministry in a local church.  The program will equip contemporary worship leaders to lead worship from a heart attentive to the Holy Spirit.  Students will develop their musical proficiency, leadership capacity, and pastoral competency through both music and ministry courses. The major includes the School of Theology and Ministry ministerial core and can be combined with the Pastoral Ministries second major to meet ordination requirements in the Wesleyan Church and meet advanced standing requirements for ministerial master’s programs.

*Note on Piano and Guitar sequencing:

Students who have no formal prior experience on guitar are recommended to begin with MUS-124 Guitar Techniques. An informal placement test may be administered to determine the appropriateness of this course for each student. Guitar Techniques may not be taken after MUS-111, 112, 211, 212, or other private study at IWU.

Students must first take the informal piano placement test with a piano faculty member to determine proper sequencing of piano study. A student must successfully complete the class piano courses before enrolling in MUS-111, 112, 211, or 212 (i.e. Class Piano courses MUS-105, 165, 205, and 305 are prerequisites of private study).
