Undergraduate Certificate - Accounting and Financial Reporting

The Accounting and Financial Reporting Certificate is a 24-credit hour academic certificate program that focuses on equipping individuals with a business background to enhance their knowledge and skills necessary for financial accounting and reporting, payroll, auditing, and business taxation. This certificate is designed for individuals who want to grow professionally in their accounting skills and use them in their current or future roles within an organization. Students will generate and analyze financial statements, use managerial accounting principles to assess costs, and apply payroll and auditing processes in real-world scenarios. Ethical principles that help ensure integrity and professionalism in accounting practice will be addressed in the certificate program.

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Generate and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP and international standards. 
  • Utilize managerial accounting principles to assess costs that support strategic decision-making. 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the federal tax system and its impact on various business entities. 
  • Apply ethical principles to ensure integrity and professionalism in accounting practices.

Admission Requirements

  • Proof of high school graduation or GED certification. 
  • Original transcripts from all previous college or university study at a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Completion Requirements

  • All credits required in the curriculum sequence with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a minimum grade of “C” in each course. A grade of "C-" or below will require the course to be repeated. 
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 in all IWU graduate work. 
  • Payment of all tuition and fees is required to receive certificate.
