EDUT-320 Teaching Phonics for Elementary Educators

This course provides the content, strategies, and methods to implement phonics instruction using scientifically based reading research (SBRR). The tools include strategies for teaching language development, phonemic awareness, phonics and spelling, and fluency. Candidates implement a data-driven, phonics-based lesson. Access to a lower elementary student required. Prerequisite: EDUT-210

EDUT-321 Teaching Comprehension, Vocabulary, and Writing for Elementary Educators

This course provides the content, strategies, and methods to support comprehension, vocabulary, and writing instruction for elementary students. Candidates use the strategies and methods to implement literacy-based instruction. Access to an elementary classroom setting required. Prerequisite: EDUT-210

EDUT-360 Building Literacy in Secondary Students

This course examines strategic literacy development for secondary learners. The course prepares teachers to develop independent metacognitive readers in their content area, and includes exploration of scientifically based reading research strategies, theories, and processes. Prerequisite: EDUT-211

EDUT-361 Content Area Learning for Secondary Students

Candidates will examine approaches, methods, and strategies related to their content area. The course also emphasizes using academic standards, methods of planning and delivering instruction, and effectively assessing students' understanding and mastery of essential concepts and skills in their content area. Access to a secondary classroom or learning environment is required. Prerequisite: EDUT-211
