HADM-501 The Health Administration Experience I

This seminar introduces students to the Master of Science with a major in Health Administration program's competency assessment and administrative residency. Students will begin the development of their competency portfolios and solicit sites to complete the required 100-hour residency, which aligns with the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) requirements. Additional topics covered include the Virtuous Business Model, professionalism, and the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Code of Ethics. This is a 12-week seminar taken concurrently with any two of the following: HADM-540, HADM-545, HADM-550, or HADM-555. Prerequisites: HADM-520, HCAD-513, HADM-525, HADM-530, HCAD-516, and HADM-535.

HADM-502 The Health Administration Experience II

This course is the second seminar in the Master of Science with a major in Health Administration program's competency assessment and administrative residency. Students will continue development of their competency portfolios and will meet with a program mentor to assess progress in competency development. Residency placement location, completion of required documentation, and beginning the 100-hour administrative residency which aligns with CAHME requirements, will be the focus of this course. Additional topics covered include emotional intelligence and relationship management. This is a 12-week seminar taken concurrently with two of the following courses not previously completed: HADM-540, HADM-545, HADM-550 or HADM-555. Prerequisite: HADM-501

HADM-503 The Health Administration Experience III

This course is the final seminar in the Master of Science with a major in Health Administration program's competency assessment and administrative residency. Students continue to work on building their competency portfolios and will meet with a program mentor to assess progress in competency development. They will finalize their 100-hour administrative residency, which aligns with CAHME requirements. Additionally, students will document the results of the administrative residency and develop a plan for life-long learning. This is a 12-week seminar taken concurrently with HCAD-515 and HADM-560. Prerequisite: HADM-502.

HADM-520 Health Services and Systems

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the U.S. healthcare system and its place within the global context. The historical basis for the system's organization, the various modes of healthcare delivery, and the ways healthcare is organized, financed, and delivered in the United States are presented. Students will be introduced to the levels of healthcare services, health insurance, public health, healthcare finance and purchasing, and current challenges to the system. The organization and delivery of healthcare services is presented from a virtuous business perspective.

HADM-525 Legal and Ethical Issues in Health Administration

This course provides an examination of contemporary legal and ethical issues encountered by professionals in the healthcare environment. Concepts and principles of law, health law, public health, legal control, and risk management will be covered. Critical thinking skills are developed by examining the ethical implications of healthcare regulations and policy. Issues addressed include government regulation of healthcare fraud and abuse, informed consent, negligence, and malpractice. In addition, access, affordability, and quality of healthcare services, corporate structure and accountability, patient rights and responsibility, and health information and privacy will be presented. Issues are examined through a virtuous business framework.

HADM-530 Principles of Population Health Administration

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the U.S. healthcare system and its place within the global context. The historical basis for the system's organization, the various modes of healthcare delivery, and the ways healthcare is organized, financed, and delivered in the United States are presented. Students will be introduced to the levels of healthcare services, health insurance, public health, healthcare finance and purchasing, and current challenges to the system. The organization and delivery of healthcare services is presented from a virtuous business perspective.

HADM-535 Informatics and Technology for Health Administration

This course provides an overview of the technologies that support healthcare information systems. Students will gain the fundamental knowledge necessary to practice within the modern healthcare environment and communicate with information technology (IT) personnel. The course introduces students to the terminology, practices, and processes found in clinical and business operations. Topics include: system software; system analysis, design, and installation; data management; information retrieval; electronic health records; computerized physician order management; telemedicine; consumer health informatics; security, privacy, and confidentiality in the electronic environment; government regulations; ethics; computerized medical imaging; decision support; and the use of data analytics in healthcare. Students will apply virtuous business principles to informatics and technology practices.

HADM-540 Quality and Safety for Health Administrators

This course provides an overview of the technologies that support healthcare information systems. HADM-545 Organizational Behavior and Human Resources in Healthcare

This course introduces students to major theories and concepts of organizational behavior and human resources applicable to the healthcare environment. Students will explore the strategic role in healthcare organizations of the human resource management functional areas of workforce planning, recruitment, hiring, supervision, motivation, training, and evaluation. Course content promotes an understanding of dynamics between people, teams and organizations. Topics include diversity and cultural competence, leadership styles, organization culture, change management and regulatory policies, and human resource requirements as they relate to healthcare settings. Students will apply virtuous business principles to human resources and organizational behavior practices.

HADM-550 Communication and Marketing for Health Administrators

This course provides an overview of the essential concepts of communication and marketing centering on the knowledge, analysis, and management of communication and marketing in the healthcare setting and how it is applied to different audiences. Students will explore marketing strategies which include the marketing mix, branding, and consumer behavior. The course examines relevant theories of interpersonal, organizational, and mass communication and their influence on the delivery of healthcare and the promotion of health. Multiple levels of communication (intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, organizational, and societal), key human and mediated channels of communication, and digital information technologies are addressed. Students will apply virtuous business principles to communication and marketing activities.

HADM-555 Healthcare Finance and Economics

This course introduces students to the core concepts of financial management and economic theory in healthcare. Financial concepts addressed include financial statement analysis, planning and budgeting, value-based purchasing, revenue cycle management, capital budgeting, disbursements, and contract management. Economic theory and analysis are addressed with a focus on healthcare consumption, supply and demand, resource allocation, and the impact of economic policy on healthcare delivery. Students will develop the necessary analytic ability, attitudes, and decision-making skills required of a health administrator in a changing environment. They will apply virtuous business practices to financial management activities.

HADM-560 Healthcare Operations Management Administration

This course explores operational management through the lens of an integrated framework. Financial management, supply chain management, quality improvement, and systems thinking are illustrated and applied within the operational context. Development and analysis of physician integration models and acute versus ambulatory settings will be explored. The relationship of strategy and daily operations will be evaluated. Topics may include forecasting, capacity, and demand. Students will apply virtuous business principles to the management of healthcare operations.
