Facilities and Grounds Use Policy
I. Scope
This policy applies to all users of Indiana Wesleyan University (“IWU”) facilities and grounds, including all guests.
II. Policy Statement
IWU exercises wise stewardship over all aspects of its facilities and grounds. Such stewardship includes use by short-term guests. Based on these considerations, IWU shall allow use of its facilities and grounds by guests for purposes not inconsistent with the educational and religious purposes held by IWU.
III. Reason for the Policy
IWU is a Christ-centered academic community whose mission is to develop students in character, scholarship, and leadership.
IWU owns, leases, and controls certain facilities and grounds including a campus and auxiliary properties in Marion, Indiana as well as regional administrative, education, and service centers throughout its service area. IWU uses these facilities and grounds in ways that are consistent with its educational and religious purposes. This policy is needed to articulate the ways in which guests of IWU may use IWU’s facilities and grounds.
IV. Related Information
- Decision-Making Authority: The IWU Board of Trustees shall make decisions as needed regarding the use of the facilities and grounds, all of which will be in the best interests of IWU. Such decision-making authority has been delegated to persons appointed by and responsible to the Board, subject to the following Doctrinal Restrictions.
- Doctrinal Restrictions: IWU’s facilities and grounds may be used only for purposes and in ways not inconsistent with the doctrinal beliefs as reflected in The Bible, The Wesleyan Church Articles of Religion, and the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement. The IWU Board of Trustees shall be the final decision-maker regarding whether any use is contrary to its religious doctrine.
- Fees: IWU may request donations or charge fees in order to defray the estimated cost for the use of the facilities and grounds. No such fees shall be charged with any impermissible view to profit.
- Agreements: The administration of IWU shall be responsible for memorializing guest use of the facilities and grounds. Such written agreements shall prohibit the prospective guest from using the facilities and grounds in a manner not consistent with the Doctrinal Restrictions identified above.
- Insurance: Insurance coverage shall be maintained for all uses of IWU’s facilities and grounds, including certificates of coverage from guests as appropriate.
- Communication: The administration of IWU shall be responsible for communicating these requirements and other guidelines to all prospective guests of the facilities and grounds.
